Peter is the Wolf

NOVEL? WHY ISN'T THE COMIC CONTINUING?

Peter is the Wolf was originally a partnership between Kris Overstreet (who came up with the original concept and wrote the story) and Ben Rodriguez (who designed the characters and drew the artwork). However, as time went on Ben lost enthusiasm for the project, and certain differences between the two made it harder for them to work together. On January 12, 2017, Ben drew his last page of the comic, and later that summer he handed over all existing files for the comic to be finished, as necessary, by other hands.

Other artists followed, but for various reasons they couldn't commit the time and energy required for a weekly webcomic. In April 2019 the comic went on hiatus again as Kris began looking for another new artist.

The new artist had to fit within several criteria. First, they had to meet a certain minimum level of skill. Second, they had to work well with Kris's scripting style. Third, they had to be able to produce work at a pace that would allow for weekly updates. Fourth, their art style needed to be at least somewhat anime-inspired. And, finally, their commission rate had to be within the amounts available via Patreon crowdfunding.

Four years of searching, and several tryout scripts, plus quite a lot of declined offers and outright ghosting, ended in failure. Drawing comics is very hard work, and in the time an artist can draw a comic, they can draw four or five pinup commissions that usually pay much better. There were artists willing to do the work, but there were stylistic clashes, personality clashes, lack of productivity, and other issues which made them not a good fit in the end.

Eventually Kris gave up. After successfully completing two Kickstarters for print collections of his fan fiction works, he decided it was time to stop waiting on the perfect (or even the good-enough) artist and instead go forward with something he could do by himself. Thus, beginning in August 2023, he began releasing bits of a light-novel adaptation of Peter is the Wolf directly and exclusively to the PitW Patreon subscribers.

There may be occasional webcomic short stories commissioned in the future (one is in hand as of this writing, another awaiting the artist's life to settle down), but the main comic will likely never be finished in its current form. As money permits, Book 3 ("Open Season") will have its artwork brought up to print quality and eventually printed as a graphic novel, as were Books 1 and 2.

Once sufficient material is completed for a novel, a Kickstarter will be floated to print it. It will have a number of illustrations, to be commissioned from various artists.

And, eventually, the main story WILL get completed.
